It is essential that this filtering service is used appropriately. As a filtering administrator you are required to manage this system in line with your Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and any e safety or AUP that your organisation has. Your Acceptable Use Policy should be reviewed regularly and understood by all key stakeholders.

This service is provided as a measure to help safeguard all users from unsuitable Internet content. RM SafetyNet allows for each organisation to amend the centrally provided filtering levels for each organisation by enabling access to blocked sites or blocking access to allowed sites. It is clear that you as the filtering administrator carry the responsibility to effectively manage this level of regulation on behalf of your school or organisation. This is a significant responsibility and as such all changes to the filtering administration environment are logged and audited for your safety to record and identify any inappropriate use.

Guidelines for use:

• This Filtering Service is available for use by everyone using your school or organisation's Internet connection.
• It is recommended that all users, and parents of those under 18 years of age, using the service have permission, have agreed to your Acceptable Use Policy.
• If application and data sharing is being used ensure that the security of your site is not compromised.
• Always keep passwords to this service secure.
• For provision of a safe Internet Service we recommend that under no circumstance should you disable the following filter lists:
  • Age Restricted
  • Illegal
  • Network Abuse
  • Note that the IWF Child Abuse Images, Extremist and PIPCU Illegal content lists cannot be disabled; this function is intentionally not permitted.
• If you disable core lists, or add local rules, this must always be done in line with your Acceptable Use Policy.
• Use extreme caution when using wildcards (eg *) in both blocking, but especially, allowing website access
• This Filtering Service must be used in line with your Acceptable Use Policy, and any changes that you make to the filtering service should be compliant with your formalised Acceptable Use Policy.
